Aston Barclay has confirmed plans to invest £1m in its Chelmsford auction centre during 2018.

The funds will increase capacity and add a twin turntable inspection bay.A further focus of the investment at the firm’s 12-acre site will be to improve vehicle workflow for preparations, inspections, sales and logistics. This will involve the construction of a new entrance for car transporters on the north-west side of the site close to the new inspection facility.

The planned vehicle flow will see cars unloaded, washed and then imaged using two new turntables complete with SpinCar technology, which enhance online buyer’s experience. The works will also see 160 extra parking spaces created, reducing the number of times cars are moved while on site.

Neil Hodson, Aston Barclay’s group chief executive

Chelmsford has been at full capacity for a while now and this investment will make a big difference to the site’s efficiency. Ultimately it will allow us to further grow our vendor volumes. Chelmsford will be the final site in the group to introduce SpinCar, but the first to adopt two turntables which will speed up our vehicle inspection process.

The two auction halls will be retained to host the site’s six sales per week, including the fleet and leasing sale on Mondays.
